Residents of Long Lama town, in the Marudi district, will soon enjoy upgrades to its internal roads as an infrastructure development project to improve them nears completion.
The project involves the improvement of internal roads, including car parks and drainages, within the town located along the Baram River, about 140km southeast of Miri city.
The project, implemented by the Highland Development Agency (HDA) under RECODA, began in December in 2019 and is expected to be completed within months.
Divided into two sections, the improvement of 533m of roads will provide better road conditions for Long Lama residents to travel on.
The project also aims to improve the existing drainage system to facilitate water flow and prevent future flooding.
The town, which has a population of 1,500, experienced heavy downpour of rain as recently as in May, which temporarily impeded construction progress.
Currently, construction is ongoing for two reinforced concrete box culverts and surface drainage systems.
After the completion of pavement works, road furniture, such as road signs, will be installed. Existing utilities will also be relocated.
