We received a courtesy visit from the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM), led by its president Puan Sri Dainna Baharuddin this morning, who gave us an overview of the organisation’s roles and functions. Prior to March 1961, there were two professional bodies representing surveyors in the country, The Malayan Institution of Surveyors and the Institution of Land Surveyors. The two bodies then resolved to form The Institution of Surveyors (Federation of Malaya) which was eventually conferred the royal status by the Sultan of Selangor on 28 March 2011. Hence, the name Royal Institute of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM).
