The village expansion scheme of Kampung Berlipat, Serdang and Belangsat, in the Lawas district is expected to be completed in the first quarter of this year.

The project, implemented by the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) under RECODA, involves the construction of a 5.3km road to link the coastal villages.

The scheme also involved setting up residential lots with basic facilities and infrastructure to meet the requirements of a rising population.

Roadworks are 60% done while drainage works have been completed.

Backfill works, which involved the replacement of soil removed during the excavation process, have also been completed.

The scheme involved the preparation of the sites and construction of concrete drains. In addition to improving livelihoods, the scheme will also help landless residents to build their own homes.
