BAKUN: A dialogue conducted in two sessions was held this afternoon with some 500 landowners from Sungai Asap to brief them on the procedures of crop counting and compensation exercise due to land acquisition.
The land acquisition has to be carried out to make way for the road upgrading work at Bakun Resettlement Scheme which will eventually provide the villagers with a better road access to their farms.
Crop counting exercise will start in a fortnight after the dialogue session where it will take one to two months’ time before compensation is made to the landowners.
Present at the dialogue session were State Assemblyman for Murum, Kennedy Chuk Pai Ugon, Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) director, Joseph Belayong Punan and officers from relevant government agencies.
Divided into two sections, the road upgrading project which is already into preliminary stage of site clearing, involves upgrading work of 51km of single carriageway from the current gravel road.
It is expected to be completed by middle of next year. The project is carried out under URDA which is an agency under Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA).
