Sarawak set to become pioneer in processing Mozarella Cheese from Buffalo Milk
Cheese lovers, this is something you will eagerly anticipate! Sarawak is set to become the pioneer in processing mozzarella cheese from buffalo milk.
This dairy product will be manufactured at the Meragang Buffalo Breeding Station Lawas (MBBS), which will serve as Malaysia’s largest cheese processing facility using buffalo milk.
During a recent visit to the project site by Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity & Regional Development (Food Industry) (M-FICORD), YB Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ismail, he emphasised that this initiative also signifies a significant stride towards community empowerment in Sarawak.
The ongoing upgrade of the MBBS project, slated for completion by 2024 is set to become Sarawak’s first ever processing-site for mozzarella cheese utilising buffalo milk.
Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman also underscored that MBBS’s future role extends beyond buffalo breeding to encompass agrotourism, particularly in the Meragang area.
Also in attendance were YB Dato Henry Sum Agong, MP for Lawas, Haji Unus Bin Tambi, Resident of Limbang Division, Ladin Bin Atok, District Officer of Lawas, and Datu Haji Ubaidillah Bin Abdul Latip, Regional Director of the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).

Keju Mozarella daripada ternakan kerbau?
Pencinta keju pastinya teruja untuk merasai keju daripada ternakan kerbau dan menariknya, makanan kegemaran ramai ini bakal dikeluarkan oleh Stesen Penternakan Kerbau Meragang Lawas (MBBS) di Sarawak!
Timbalan Menteri Industri Makanan, Komoditi & Pembangunan Wilayah (Industri Makanan) (M-FICORD), YB Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman Haji Ismail dalam lawatannya ke MBBS baru-baru ini menyatakan bahawa inisiatif itu merupakan langkah untuk memberdayakan masyarakat di negeri ini l, agar lebih berinovatif.
“Stesen Penternakan Kerbau Meragang Lawas (MBBS) dijangka akan mengubah ekonomi tempatan dengan penghasilan keju daripada ternakan kerbau.”
Dalam perkembangan berkaitan, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman berkata projek naiktaraf MBBS masih berjalan dan dijangka siap pada 2024.
“MBBS akan menjadi premis pertama di Sarawak yang akan memproses keju mozzarella. Ia juga bakal menjadi kilang pemprosesan keju terbesar di Malaysia yang berasaskan susu kerbau.
Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman turut menekankan bahawa peranan masa depan MBBS bukan sahaja dalam penternakan kerbau tetapi juga dalam agro-pelancongan terutamanya di kawasan Meragang.
Turut hadir adalah YB Dato Henry Sum Agong, Ahli Parlimen Lawas, Haji Unus Bin Tambi, Residen Bahagian Limbang, Ladin Bin Atok, Pegawai Daerah Lawas dan Datu Haji Ubaidillah Bin Abdul Latip, Pengarah Wilayah Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).
