The announcement at the end of 2014 by the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Haji Adenan Bin Haji Satem, that the State Government will reduce electricity tarrifs by 2% to over 40% effective January 1st 2015, was a welcome boost for businesses, consumers and the economy as it will reduce the burden on consumers and give them more disposable income to put back into the local economy.

This move is in line with the state government’s promise to provide affordable renewable energy while reducing its carbon footprint in line with the development of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).

A large part of the early investment in SCORE has centred around Samalaju, increasing demand for housing and other critical infrastructure. Recently, the development of Samalaju Eco Park was announced by Samalaju Properties Sdn Bhd. Samalaju Eco Park is an eco friendly township that embraces the concept of lifestyle, health and sustainability.

The first green township in the area will feature groundbreaking design and architecture that best utilizes available resources, minimizes energy consumption and ensures a low carbon footprint.

Samalaju Eco Park will feature prioritized bicycle lanes, tree-lined pedestrian walkways and public transportation routes to reduce carbon emission and energy consumption and make the surrounding community a calmer place.

Developer Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (CMS) promises Samalaju Eco Park will be an eco-friendly environment from the start of the development process, using a zero burning method to produce biomass mulch that decomposes the waste from land clearing while acting as a natural organic fertilizer as well as removing unwanted weeds and undergrowth. The township is also planned so as to preserve as much of the land’s natural landforms and water bodies.

The developer expects Samalaju Eco Park to be completed by the end of 2015. Samalaju Eco Park will provide residents with a seamless combination of cutting edge architecture, town planning, and energy efficient technology as well as the luxurious comfort of modern living that allows future residents to experience the future today.
