RECODA joins exhibition at Baram Regatta 2023 in Marudi Waterfront
RECODA has joined the Baram Regatta festivities, an event that has not been held since 2017. This celebration brings together communities and celebrates the rich heritage of the Baram basin. Today’s guest of honour is the Premier of Sarawak YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg.
Due to the construction of the waterfront and the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, this event has been on hold for six years. Now, it’s back, and the Marudi waterfront overlooking the Baram River has come alive along with the Marudi Town Square, which will host the traditional Baram Regatta Beauty Queen competition, ethnic music, and captivating dances at night.
The Baram Regatta, a bi-annual tradition since 1899, symbolises the end of headhunting and tribal wars among ethnic tribes. It marks the unity and peace that have prevailed since then, with warriors showcasing their strength in boat races along the Baram River.
