The New Ng. Belawai / SK Nanga Terusa / Rumah Jabang, Ulu Belawai Road was officially opened by YB Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Works Malaysia, Chairman of the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) and Member of Parliament for P.215 Kapit, together with YB Datuk Jefferson Jamit Anak Unyat, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Law and Customs) and State Assemblyman for N.63 Bukit Goram. The ceremony featured a traditional miring ceremony and symbolic ribbon-cutting at the new Sungai Ulu Belawai Bridge, reflecting the customs and traditions of the local community.
Our Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Haji Ismawi bin Haji Ismuni, attended the ceremony together with Ir. Ts. Haji Mohammad Safri bin Haji Ibrahim, Director of Project Management, and Khairina binti Dawek, Director of Investment and Strategic Development. Also present were Mr Elvis Anak Didit, Resident of Kapit Division; representatives from the Land and Survey Department Sarawak and Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak; as well as community leaders and residents of Ulu Belawai.
Implemented by RECODA, the RM57.5 million project comprises an 8km R1-standard main road, 8 spur roads and 3 bridges across Sungai Belawai. Upon completion, the project was handed over to JKR Sarawak for subsequent management and maintenance. The improved road network benefits approximately 1,633 residents across 16 longhouse communities, as well as SK Nanga Terusa with 55 pupils.
The project provides safer and more convenient access to education, healthcare and economic activities while reducing reliance on logging roads and river transportation. It also strengthens connectivity towards Song and surrounding areas, supporting the socio-economic development and well-being of communities in Ulu Belawai, in line with Sarawak’s inclusive development aspirations under PCDS 2030.
